JUAN MATUTE

Juan Matute first achieved prominence in 1982 in world championships and as a young rider in show jumping competitions. He was a member of the Spanish Dressage Team at the Seoul, Barcelona and Atlanta Olympic Games and the European Championships in Luxembourg in 1995.

In 1987-1988, he studied in Germany with Herbert Rehbein and has been named Spanish National Dressage Champion five times.

He is a member of the Dressage Commission at the National Spanish Federation, is technical director of the Spanish Center Cabaex for PRE breeding and exporting, and conducts national and international dressage clinics and seminars. He is also responsible for training and exporting PRE horses for dressage such as Gaucho III, grand prix level, now in Florida; Bizarro, finalist at the ANCCE finals in 2000; and Mulato (Marqués de Velilla), winner of silver and bronze medal at the ANCCE finals in 1999.

Juan continues to train and compete in Europe, and is a member of the Spanish Dressage Team. He hopes to compete in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Currently he is the coach for the Spanish Young Rider Team.

Juan's style of teaching is very compatible with both German and Spanish classical dressage principles. He speaks English fluently and energizes his students. He has a particular talent for teaching piaffe, passage and upper level movements.
